I took this one a few weeks prior to the previous two cloud to ground lightning. This storm produced a lot of cloud to cloud discharges. 5 sec exposures at f2.8. Work down in PhotoShop. Close sprite captured on May 5, 2010. This one was about 150 miles away. Good detail of the tendrils within the sprite can be seen on this one. Telescope: - Camera: Watec 902H with 16mm 1:1.4 lens. Filtration used: None - M20100711 022750
Bright sprite captured on July 11, 2010. This one was over Georga. Good detail of the tendrils within the sprite and diffused upper region can be seen on this one. Telescope: - Camera: Watec 902H with 16mm 1:1.4 lens. Filtration used: None - M20100807 014005 Sebring FL
Distant sprite imaged over South Carolina. The storm which generated this and a number of other sprites on August 07, 2010 was around 450 miles away. Telescope: - Camera: Watec 902H with 12mm 1:1.4 lens. Filtration used: None - M20100808 072527 Sebring FL
A very bright halo. Imaged over the Atlantic on August 08, 2010. The glare on the bottom left corner is from a street lamp. Telescope: - Camera: Watec 902H with 12mm 1:1.4 lens. Filtration used: None - M20100905 082309 Jet
A blue jet or blue starter (hard to tell). Imaged off the coast of Daytona Florida over the Atlantic on September 05, 2010. This storm was very energetic with very high flash rates. Yet only one sprite was imaged over it, so mostly negative lightning. Bright Moon to the right. Telescope: - Camera: Watec 902H with 12mm 1:1.4 lens. Filtration used: None · Date/Time 2010:09:07 11:28:55 · Resolution 768 x 494 - z20120516 010638 Sebring FL 067s

My first capture of an elve. Elves are the result of EMPs (electromagnetic pulse) produced by powerful lightning. When the EMP blast strikes the ionosphere it ionized a very large region (~500km) in turn causing it to glow red. The donut shape of elves is due to the propagation characteristics of the EMP blast. Elves are the most common TLE's, but because they are so short lived, less than 1ms, it is not easy to detect them with standard CCTV equipment. Telescope: - Camera: Watec 902H with 16mm 1:1.4 lens.
